Off-road Tyres for your Road Trip

When choosing tyres for a road trip, there are several factors to consider, such as the type of vehicle you’ll be driving, the terrain you’ll be driving on, weather conditions, the length of your trip, and so on.

Depending on your specific needs and driving conditions, there are some tyre options you can choose from, including highway-terrain (HT), all-terrain (AT), and mud-terrain (MT).

Highway-terrain tyres

HT tyres are designed for use on paved roads and highways. They provide a comfortable ride and good fuel economy. They are not ideal for off-road driving or rough terrain.

Mud-terrain (MT) tyres

These tyres are designed for heavy off-road use, with a more aggressive tread pattern providing excellent traction on mud, sand, and other loose terrain. MT tyres are not ideal for highway driving as they can be quite noisy and uncomfortable on sealed roads.

All-terrain (AT) tyres

AT tyres are a compromise between highway and MT tyres. They provide good performance on both on and off-road conditions. They have a more aggressive tread pattern than highway tyres, but not as aggressive as mud-terrain tyres.

At Tyrepower Broome, we stock a wide range of HT, MT and AT tyres to suit everyone’s needs. These are some examples of what we have in stock:

Falken WILDPEAK H/T

Falken WILDPEAK H/T tyre

The Falken WILDPEAK H/T tyre has been designed to provide excellent handling on dry and wet surfaces. It offers improved traction thanks to a combination of high tension casing plies and wide steel belts, which provide stability and comfort. Additionally, the Falken WILDPEAK HT tyre has a non-directional tread pattern that makes it ideal for mild off-road conditions, such as driving on country dirt roads or sand.

The tyre’s key features include a multi-wave lateral sipe design for improved wet traction and all-season performance. It also includes a variable-pitch shoulder design that helps reduce tyre noise and promotes even wear. The tyre has a symmetric, non-directional 5-rib tread pattern that offers optimal handling stability, and comfort.

The WILDPEAK H/T also has four large circumferential straight grooves that enhance wet grip and reduce hydroplaning, as well as steel belts that offer greater tread rigidity, off-road puncture resistance, and high-speed stability. Finally, the tyre's joint-less nylon cap ply increases durability at high speeds and promotes long-lasting even wear.

Maxxis RAZR AT811

Maxxis RAZR AT811 tyre

The Maxxis RAZR AT811 is a great solution for drivers looking for a tyre that performs well in a variety of conditions. The Maxxis RAZR AT811 features a blade-shaped tread block design that provides excellent off-road traction and water drainage in wet weather conditions.

The tyre also boasts aggressive 'side biter' lugs that assist in providing optimal traction in muddy conditions while protecting the sidewall from cuts and punctures. The shoulder lug design helps with traction in heavy off-road conditions, especially when driven at lower inflation pressures.

Additionally, the tyre's saw-edge shoulder blocks enhance traction in harsh off-road conditions, and a unique stone-ejecting shoulder groove reduces the possibility of stones lodging between tread blocks and damaging the tyre casing. The Maxxis RAZR AT811 also features a dual-layer high tension cap ply that ensures excellent cornering ability on and off the road, as well as improving puncture resistance.

Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003

Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 tyre

The Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 is a tyre designed for extreme off-road adventures. It comes with a reinforced casing that provides exceptional performance, a long tread life, and an intimidating appearance. The key features of the Yokohama Geolandar MT G003 include its high-density compound, which offers exceptional wear performance. Its aggressive tread provides off-road traction and protection.

This tyre also has an improved sidewall for added off-road traction, durability, and appearance. Its optimised lug grooves increase grip and wet traction, and its wide flat profile distributes stress evenly, resulting in longer wear. The mud and stone ejector feature helps prevent stone drilling and keeps the grooves clear, ensuring maximum performance in the toughest of conditions.
